Building and Renovating

“Opting Out” – A Guide to Taking Back Control of your EQ Repairs

Jay Goodenbour – Fix it Building Services

Jay is a former executive of Carter Holt Harvey and has held positions in all aspects of the forestry and wood products manufacturing industry over a career spanning 30 years.  He now owns and operates the Canterbury territories of the nationwide renovation franchise Fix It Building Services – which has been operating in Canterbury for 7 years.  Fix It supplies a one-stop solution from design through project management and all trades to construct and repair residential buildings  Jay has experience handling over 20 opt out projects with the EQC and is well-versed in the EQC’s processes and ways in which claimants can get the best outcomes from the EQC’s process.

Jay’s seminar goes into practical detail about the EQC’s processes of dealing with opt out properties and some of the more frequently asked questions about the process –including homeowner’s queries about how to do alternative repairs and renovations within the EQC’s  scope of works.  Come along and learn how to get out of the queue and get on with repairs to your property at no cost to you.

Foley Group Architecture

Simplifying the design process - rebuilding after the quakes

Rob Campbell – Foley Group Architecture

Rob’s seminar will aim to inform those about to rebuild about the design process. It will cover the basics of good design i.e. flow and functionality, designing to your budget, layout of the house in relation to your site and the sun, and the consent process. A lot of clients simply don't know where to begin and are daunted at the thought of rebuilding. This seminar will aim to answer some of the questions commonly asked and inform people that the process is not as overwhelming as what they might think.

Earthquake Insurance

Issues and frustrations of displaced homeowners as a consequence of the earthquake damage to their houses/ Rights and entitlements

Kevin Seque – KSL financial Limited

Kevin Seque, principal of KSA, with 41 years of insurance company experience is well aware of the issues and frustrations displaced homeowners are experiencing daily, directly or indirectly, as a consequence of the earthquake damage to their houses. Most displaced home owners are not aware of their rights and entitlements.
Kevin will discuss and advise you on:

  1. Inconsistent advice being provided to claimants.
  2. Clients not being fully advised by their insurers of  their policy options and entitlements
  3. Understanding that the Assessors and project managers are working for the Insurer not the client.
  4. Insurers influencing clients into accepting offers that do not fully maximise the client’s policy entitlements.
  5. When to involve the Lawyer in the claim
  6. The Pros and Cons of using the Insurers project management process for rebuilding.

The unique aspect of the KSL Audit is that its sole goal is to maximise the claimant’s position with their insurer by getting their damaged home declared a rebuild and ensuring they receive maximum entitlement from their policy. KSA do not charge the client a fee unless they get the property designated “a rebuild”.

Insulation

A guide to having the warmest home in Christchurch

David Rees – Airfoam Ltd

Soon after completing a Boatbuilding apprenticeship, David moved into the building industry, firstly building new houses then renovating existing houses before moving onto commercial buildings, specialising in interior fitouts.

In 1992 David moved into the insulation industry by purchasing an Airfoam insulation business which sold and installed insulation into the walls of existing houses. In 1999 David purchased another insulation business to enable him to be the complete one stop shop by supplying and installing a full range of insulation products, including ceiling and underfloor insulation. During this time of selling a complete range of products, it soon became obvious to David that most houses he visited usually had some form of insulation in the ceiling, although in most cases the level of insulation was inadequate. At the same time he also realised that virtually none of the houses he visited had any wall insulation. With this in mind, in 2002, David decided to specialise totally in the insulation of the existing walls of homes, stopped selling any other products and put all his time and effort into developing the Airfoam business into what it is today, providing New Zealanders nationwide with warmer, drier, quieter, healthier more energy efficient homes.

At this seminar David will share with you, a little about himself, a little about the Airfoam business, but to you most importantly he will share with you his "Insulation Lesson" which has been developed through his many years in the practical application  of insulation into New Zealand homes.
